Street parades, elaborate costumes, pulsating soca rhythms and traditional masquerade. Tobago's Carnival showcases the island's unique flair — colourful, creative and deeply rooted in tradition. Celebrations and fetes begin weeks before Carnival Monday.
April 7, 2026 (Easter Tuesday) · Buccoo Integrated Facility, Buccoo
Thoroughbred goats in jockey outfits thunder down the race track while humans run alongside — one of the Caribbean's most joyfully bizarre spectacles. The crab races follow at a more leisurely pace. A Tobago Easter tradition dating back generations.

A celebration of the fishing community in one of Tobago's most picturesque villages. Fresh seafood, traditional music and a vibrant community spirit — best reached via the scenic Windward Road drive along the coast.
July 16 – August 1, 2026 · Village-by-village, island-wide
The crown jewel of Tobago's cultural year. Since 1986, villages across the island host nightly performances of traditional music, folk dance, storytelling, speech bands and local cuisine. The 2026 theme is "Ubuntu — I Am Because We Are." Events rotate across different villages each evening — a rental car is essential to fully participate. August 1, 2026 · National Public Holiday · Scarborough & island-wide
August 1st marks Emancipation Day — a deeply significant national holiday commemorating the abolition of slavery in 1838. The Heritage Festival culminates with an Emancipation Day parade, featuring traditional costumes, drumming and cultural performances.
August 15, 2026 · Trinidad (Gulf of Paria) → Tobago (Plymouth)
One of the world's longest-running offshore powerboat races — an 85-mile crossing from Trinidad to Tobago. Thousands of spectators line Tobago's coast and beaches to watch the high-powered boats arrive. A land-based regatta, picnics and parties follow the finish well into the night.
August 31, 2026 · National Public Holiday
Trinidad and Tobago celebrates independence from Britain (1962). Island-wide celebrations include parades, street parties, traditional music and the flying of the red, white and black national flag from every corner of Tobago.
October 18, 2026 · Bloody Bay Village, northern Tobago
Named one of the world's best food festivals by CNN. Every October, the serene village of Bloody Bay transforms into a gourmet destination celebrating dasheen — Tobago's signature "blue food." Local chefs craft elegant dishes, desserts and drinks from this versatile root crop, all paired with live entertainment and stunning natural scenery. Visitors taste the creativity of Tobago's culinary community in an intimate village setting.
October 30 – November 1, 2026 · Scarborough & island-wide
The final Carnival on the global calendar — giving participants one last burst of festive energy each year. In 2026 it marks the 5th anniversary of the Tobago October Carnival, promising an even more spectacular showcase of cultural diversity and artistic expression. Lively street parades, vibrant costumes, soca rhythms and traditional performances against Tobago's stunning backdrop.
November 8–9, 2026 · National Public Holiday
The Hindu Festival of Lights is celebrated island-wide with clay deyas (lamps) lighting homes and streets, traditional Indian food, music and dance. Tobago's diverse multicultural heritage is beautifully expressed in this stunning night-time celebration.
December 2026 · Villages island-wide; New Year's Eve on the beaches
Parang — Venezuelan-influenced folk music sung in Spanish — fills Tobago's villages throughout December, with impromptu performances at homes and rum shops. Christmas Day (Dec 25) and Boxing Day (Dec 26) are public holidays. New Year's Eve brings fireworks, beach parties and steel pan to welcome the year with warmth and rhythm.
